WORLD SERVICE DAY AT BARNABAS CHILDRENS HOME
On Sunday 26th October 2014 the club visited BARNABAS CHILDREN HOME in Shanzu to celebrate WORLD SERVICE DAY with the children of the home.
The home accommodates 100 children who are either orphans or from very poor families. Together with the home, they are also running a school where altogether 200 children attend. They have an educational program from Kindergarten to Standard 4.
On arrival at the home we were entertained with songs, poems and traditional dances. After that the founder of the home Mr. Harrison gave his introduction and how he founded Barnabas, which is now a dream come true despite of the several challenges that him and his staff went through.
The Convenor, Lion Reezvana after a brief address then introduced our Club President, Lion Akil Adamjee, members, spouses and cubs. After a brief address by our President who said that we have come to this place to celebrate the Lions World Service Day, which is celebrated all over the world in the month of October. He said that we have come with donations of reading books, used clothes & footwear, goodies, foodstuff and hot cooked lunch. He said that we are very impressed by the home and the wonderful reception that the children and staff have given us. He told all the children to study hard and excel in life.
