The DG’s visit to our club began with a special board meeting with all club members at 8.00 pm at Baobab Holiday Resort. The meeting was attended by 17 members, 5 were out of town while one couldn’t attend due to unavoidable circumstances. The board meeting was very informative as members were able to get more insight information about Lions Clubs International.
After the board meeting, we had the formal DG’s Night and marked the Club’s 23rd Charter Nite at the Gold Chopstick Restaurant, Baobab Holiday Resort. The function was steered by our Tamer, Zone Chairperson Lion Linda and the DG was introduced by our very energetic Lion Zainul Dar. In her remarks, the DG emphasized the importance of recruiting new members and attending local training and international convention which is a good way of members familiarizing themselves with each other’s activities and thus networking. After this, the DG presented several members with her pin and banner.
The club also donated US$100 towards LCIF which was presented by our President Lion Kamaljeet together with her own personal handwoven gift.
Thereafter it was time for pomp and celebration as Lion Mwami narrated the history of the club from its humble beginnings on 26th August 1996 to-date. The formal function ended with the cutting of the cake by 3 charter members present, Lion Dr Subhash Shah, Lion Zainul Dar & Lion Mwami Se-Mayama assisted by the DG. After all the pomp the DG, guests and members were treated to a sumptuous Chinese meal and “all was well that ended well”.
On Saturday 24th August, Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari also had the privilege to have the presence of the District Governor, Lion Amarpreet Sembi, accompanied by her spouse PCC Lion Rajinder Pape Sembi for a service activity. The activity was at Mahali pa Usalama in Tudor, Mombasa (a Rescue Referral Centre for children).
The club donated items which the centre required: milk, detergents, toothbrushes, sanitary pads and foodstuff. After the presentation, the club was given a short brief of the centre and how it operates. The number of children residing there fluctuates from time to time as the children get re-habilitated back to their families after court cases and counselling both the family and children. Thereafter members were entertained with dances by the children. Members joined the children in the dances which they immensely enjoyed.
The activity ended with tree planting of Ashoka trees outside the compound.
Thereafter members hosted the DG & spouse to a “light lunch” at United Sports Club before proceeding to the Leadership Training at the Lions Medical & Eye Centre at 2.30 pm
