Lions club of Mombasa Bahari endeavors to meet at least one focus area of the Centennial Service Challenge in their monthly service activity. On Sunday 21st August 2016 the club featured on hunger.
The club members led by President, Linda Shuma and the Convener of Service Activities Lion Kamaljeet Kaur visited Swabur Orphanage, in Kisauni constituency, which was started in 2005, and is home to a total of 84 children (60 boys and 24 girls) from ages 3 to 18. The children are either orphans, victims of tribal clashes in Tana River, or from very poor families identified by individuals or sent by government children’s department.
During the visit the members donated foodstuff comprising maize meal, rice, wheat flour, porridge flour, sugar, cooking oil, vegetables, salt, bread, margarine, jam, biscuits, lollypops and detergent all costing Ksh17,000/-. The children were full of smiles as they were sure of meals for another one month as the home operates from hand to mouth.
The Lions club of Mombasa Bahari was a blessing to them. It was in this spirit that the children showered the club with songs and verses of blessings from the Koran.
All in all the activity took a worthy one and a half hours of satisfaction for the members and one cub being with the children.
