The Education Committee under the Convenership of Lion Mayuri Patel once again organized a successful Poetry Recital Competition for the younger children on 1st February 2014 at the Lecture Hall of Oshwal Academy Mombasa.
Sixty students from the following schools took part in this competition:
1) Aga Khan Nursery School
2) Oshwal Academy
3) Tiny Tots Kindergarten
4) Jaffery Academy
5) Coast Academy
6) N.A. Rahim Nursery Centre
7) Nasserpuria Primary School
The groups were as follows:
Group A for the 4 to 5 years old
Group B for the 5 to 6 years old
Group C for the 6 to 7 years old
Each group was given a choice of 4 poems to memorize.
Most of these young children recited their choice of poem very well. Their expressions and their confidence on stage were brilliant.
The judges for this event were Mrs. Zainab Anjarwalla (retired teacher from Coast Academy) and Mrs. Tina Shah (retired teacher from Aga Khan Nursery School).
The competition started at 8.45 a.m. and ended at 11 a.m.
Our Region Chairperson, Lion Mary Mwami gave out the certificates to the participants to all the students. Assisting Lion Mary were Lions Maria Haji, Linda Shuma, Akil Adamjee and President of Club Rashida Pirbhai.
The winners from each group were given tokens as follows:
1st Prize a voucher from Toy World of Kshs: 1500/-
2nd Prize a voucher from Paper Connection of Kshs: 1200/-
3rd Prize a voucher from Toy World of Kshs: 1000/-
The following students were declared as winners in their relevant group:
4-5 year group:
1st winner – Viva Shah – Tiny Tots Kindergarten
2nd winner – Aydan Jamal – Mombasa Academy
3rd winner – Mariam Atiq Nathani – N.A. Rahim Nursery Centre
5 – 6 year group:
1st winner – Rafae Abdulhamid – Coast Academy
2nd winner – Vineet Anand Bhavsar – Oshwal Academy
3rd winner – Burhanuddin Huzeifa Tajbhai – Jaffery Academy
6 -7 year group:
1st winner - Aashi Shah – Mombasa Academy
2nd winner – Lakhsimran Sagoo – Mombasa Academy
3rd winner – Waheeda Bawazir – Jaffery Academy
Appreciation tokens were presented to both the judges. Later on all were served with a packet of crisps and a bottle of juice.
