Poetry Recital Competition 2013

The Education Committee of the Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari organised their very first Poetry Recital Competition for children between the ages of 4 to 7. The event was held at Oshwal Academy Mombasa on Saturday 26th January 2013 from 9 a.m. To 11 a.m. 63 participants took part from 8 schools. The participating schools were :

1. Aga Khan Nursery School
2. Aga Khan Academy
3. Jaffery Academy
4. Mombasa Academy
5. MSB Educational Institute
6. Oshwal Academy
7. Swaminarayan Academy
8. Tiny Tots Kindergarten

The competition was organised into 3 categories :
4 to 5 year group
5 to 6 year group
6 to 7 year group

Each group had a selection of 4 poems to learn and express the chosen one with clear diction,
action and confidence.

The 2 judges, Mrs Mridula Doshi and Mrs Karen Burnard, both retired teachers from Coast
Academy, chose the following winners from each group :

4 to 5 year group
1st Prize : Caleb Ghrist from Aga Khan Nursery School
2nd Prize : Eric Wambungu from Aga Khan Nursey School
3rd Prize : Zahra Noorani from Oshwal Academy

5 to 6 year group
1st Prize : Moshe Mtango from Oshwal Academy
2nd Prize : Jade Omwenga from Mombasa Academy
3rd Prize : Aamena Merali from Jaffery Academy

6 to 7 year group
1st Prize : Alyssa Jamal from Aga Khan Academy
2nd Prize : Natasha Shallo from Jaffery Academy
3rd Prize : Ursula Mutewa Nzau from Swaminarayan Academy

All the participants were presented with a certificate of participation by the Club President Lion
Akil Haji.

10 Lion members from the Club made sure that the event ran smoothly from the beginning to the
end.
