Mahali pa Usalama - A rescue center for abused children

Dear Friends,

This weekend, Lion Linda organised a memorable service activity. Have you ever stopped and wondered where do our children go when they have been let down by the people closest to them, the people they believed are there to protect them, nurture them, the people that should unconditionally love them? 

When our police and our public services are presented with children who are being abused, mistreated and neglected; who do they turn to, to help these children and their families? 

What They Do

The rescue center is run by the Catholic Diocese of Mombasa, it houses around 28 children and takes in children from as young as 5 years old and gives them hope, it looks after them for a period of 12 months and gives them life skills to help them understand that it's not their fault. If an adult has made unwise decisions towards them, it's not their fault. The children are returned to their immediate families if it is deemed safe to do so by the local authorities / courts.

The Welcome

The talent these children showed us gave us hope, listening to them sing and teach us about life was heart warming and shows us just how resilient children are, nurturing this surely is our collective responsibility.

What We Did

The Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari donated a variety of dried food stuff, cooking oil and sanitary towels, Lion Zainul and Lion Akil also gave personal donations of biscuits and strawberry milk to the children.
