On Sunday 28th February 2021 our journey to Vetengeni in Kilifi County started at 7am from our Project Convenor, Lion Shoeb Ganiwalla’s residence as he was the first one to be picked up by the minivan that we had hired. After that our Club President, Lion Adnaan Kitabwalla was picked followed by Lion Akil Haji where there was a slight delay as he decided to go and buy ‘mahamri & bhazi’ (Swahili breakfast) for his family before he embarks on the journey. After that slight delay Mr. Hussein Ebrahimjee was picked and then the van headed to Nyali to pick Lion Zainul Dar from where we now proceeded with our journey to Vetengeni. The drive upto Kilifi was very smooth and it was here that we picked Lion Linda Shuma (Region Chairperson).
We then turned into the murrum road just after Pwani University. The road was not that bud but it was extremely hot and thank God that we were in an AirCon van.
We reached the first school called Kafuloni Primary School after 3 ½ hours. Here we were welcomed with a welcome songs & dances. After a prayer and short speeches by the School Chairman, Lion Shoeb, Club President and Lion Linda we then handed over 31 desks & chairs. Together with that we also gave goody bags & face masks to all the children.
From here we then proceeded to Milore Primary School, which was another 45 minutes drive. Here also after a prayer and short speeches by the Headmaster, Lion Shoeb, Club President and Lion Linda we then handed over 30 desks & chairs. Also goody bags and face masks were given to all the children.
In both the schools Region Chairperson, Lion Linda emphasised to all student, teachers and parents to plant as many tress as possible when the rainy season starts. She also told the girls that they should be responsible and avoid getting pregnant.
Both the schools headmasters and children were very happy for the kind donations.
The club is very thankful to Dr. Zainul Saigar & family from Canada, who donated the desks & chairs, Mombasa Canvas Ltd for their donation of face masks and Mr. Hussein Ebrahimjee who helped us to identify these two schools. The goody bags were donated by our own Lions Shoeb/Amena & family. We say a big Thank You and may God bless you and your families.
After the activity we then headed towards Kilifi for a late lunch, dropped Lion Linda at her home and headed back to Mombasa.
All in all it was an excellent and satifying activity.
