Poetry Recital Competition at Aga Khan Academy

The Education committee organised the 7th Poetry Recital competition for the younger children. The competition was held on Saturday 2nd March 2019 at Aga Khan Academy Hall from 8.00 am – 11.30 am.

The groups were as follow:

Group A - for the 4-5 years old.

Group B - for the 5-6 years old.

Group C - for the 6-7 years old.

Invitations were sent out by email on Friday 1st February 2019 to the following schools.

1. Shree Swaminarayan Academy.

2. Fort Jesus Academy.

3. Arya Nursery School.

4. Tiny Tots Kindergarten.

5. Oshwal Academy.

6. Aga Khan Nursery School

7. Jaffery Academy.

8. Coast Academy.

9. MSB Educational Institute.

10. Mombasa Academy.

11. Aga Khan Academy.

12. Memon Academy.

13. Braeburn Mombasa International School.

All the above schools except for Arya Nursery School, Shree Swaminarayan Academy, Aga Khan Academy did not participate.

We had a total of 83 participants from 10 schools. Each group was given a choice of four poems to learn and recite.

The judges for the competition were Miss. Mercy Mecha and Mrs. Rashida Khanbhai. All the participants were presented with participation certificates. They were treated to soft drink and a snack.

Zone Chairperson Lion Shashi D’Silva was in attendance together with Club President Lion Zainul Dar and Lions Tasneem Dar, Kamaljeet Sewag, Rashida Pirbhai, Adnaan Kitabwalla, Shoeb Ganiwalla, Akil Haji, Afrose Baradia and spouse Alifya Kitabwalla; and not forgetting our very able Education Convenor Lion Amena Ganiwalla. Thank you Lion Rashida Pirbhai for writing the certificates for the participants and Lion Akil for entertaining the parents while we waited for the results.

Lion President in his address thanked all the children, teachers, parents and schools and the judges. He said that without your participation and support this competition is not possible. To the children, he said that whether you win or lose, you all are winners. He then requested all to given each and everyone of us a standing ovation.

The winners from each group were given tokens as follows: As per the judges' decision, we had one more consolation prize as Judges Consolation Prize to Ajab Hussein Mukarram Of MSB Educational Institute.

The following students were declared as winners in their relevant groups: Group A (4-5 Years) 1st - Sabrina Suhail Muravvej from Tiny Tots Kindergarten. 2nd - Sasha Wangari from Aga Khan Nursery School. 3rd - Juma Kombo from Fort Jesus Academy. Consolation Prize - Anayah Osman Allarakhia from Memon Academy. Group B (5-6 Years) 1st - Prisha Shah from Aga khan Nursery School. 2nd - Rufaidah Irfan Mussani from Memon Academy. 3rd - Yumna Imran Noorani from Memon Academy. Consolation Prize -Nuriyah Yusufali from Braeburn Mombasa International School. Group C (6-7 Years) 1st - Aqua Ogwapit from Mombasa Academy. 2nd - Kayla Shah from Mombasa Academy. 3rd - Arya Karembo from Oshwal Academy. Consolation Prize - Jabali Thuku from Oshwal Academy. Both the judges were presented with a token of appreciation.
